Mango Care Guide
Expert tips to ensure your mangoes ripen perfectly
Do Not Refrigerate Unripe
Never refrigerate or freeze mangoes before they are fully ripe, as this will halt the ripening process permanently.
Ideal Ripening Temperature
Store mangoes at room temperature, ideally between 23-26°C, for them to ripen fully and develop the best flavor.
Maintain Humidity
Mangoes ripen best in high humidity (80-90%). You can place a damp cloth near the mangoes to help maintain this.
Accelerate Ripening
To speed up ripening, place mangoes in a brown paper bag with a banana. The ethylene gas from the banana will accelerate the process.
Let Them Breathe
As mangoes ripen, they need to breathe. Avoid storing them in airtight containers or plastic bags.
Storing Ripe Mangoes
Once ripe, you can store mangoes in the fridge to prolong their shelf life for a few days. Avoid frequent temperature changes.
Pro Tip: How to Check for Ripeness
Gently press near the stem of the mango. A ripe mango will yield slightly to gentle pressure and will have a sweet, fruity aroma at the stem end. Don't judge ripeness by color alone!
